I met some amazing people, made some great new friends, and connected with some of the most outstanding and innovative teachers in the country. I'm excited about what those connections will mean for myself, my students, and both Math STEM education in the US going forward.
I also joined the Twitter feed (#PAEMST), as well as for #NSF, and am making a commitment to be more involved with Twitter, as I follow so many interesting feeds, just forget to check consistently! I consider myself blessed to have met the other awardees. We will stay in touch, through a listserv for email, and our Facebook group. Can't wait to see what we can do together going forward. It's been amazing. Tomorrow we get to continue changing the world. The day started with everyone meeting in the lobby at 7:45. Because of the snow all government offices were shut down and the buses weren't running. Fortunately, the White House and the National Science Foundation were able to still continue with today's events. Instead of buses, we walked a few blocks in the snow to the Metro, many in tennies, carrying their dress shoes in plastic bags. ... and on their Twitter feed... (click)
So... word has it from those already arrived in D.C. that there may well be another major winter storm for the D.C. area (check out link) during our visit. I think we are all okay with that, as long as we can all get there! We will deal with it event by event...
Executive decision on the coat. I've decided to choose the lighter weight coat vs my heavier, warmer one... I can't imagine having to lug that thing around once we get inside places we will be spending most of our time. Chris agrees. The question becomes, do I want to be freezing cold for short spurts, or freezing friggin cold for short spurts. I have chosen door #2. Now I must accept the consequences! Please, God, be gentle! |
